July Highlights
Take a quick look at what our community partners have been up to:
Not for Sale partners with several physicians in Honduras. Dr. Francy has working in several positions serving some of the most marginalized populations in Honduras. Dr. Francy has been pivotal in so much of the work Not for Sale has partnered with. Dr. Francy and her family were able to visit Minnesota in 2024 and are a dear part of the Not for Sale family. She and her husband Dr. Chavez are expecting a baby in September. We as a community ask for prayer for her and her family as they anticipate the arrival of the newest member of their (and our) sweet family.
Not for Sale board member Christy and a small group traveled to Yoro in July. Christy shares “Naomi (Christy’s sister) shared a game teaching the importance of proper hand washing to illuminate germs. She used Glow germs and the children had a fun time washing their hands. In addition, the children made bracelets, learned how to crochet, played games and colored numerous coloring sheets. We were smothered with hugs as we said goodbye.”
New panes of glass to secure the windows and ensure the safety of the staff and children of the school.
Special Projects:
Not for Sale received a generous donation in the memory and honor of Sally Hill (Lisa’s precious mother). The teachers have identified that the school building lacks secure door/windows. The donation is being used to bring a higher level of security to the building to keep children and staff safe.
We received a large donation of medical supplies. Two members of the Not for Sale board will be traveling to Honduras in August and will bring supplies for our physician partners and the public hospital.
Our community leaders have a connection at a nearby school. The school serves families in a low socioeconomic area. We were able to provide a new bookshelf and a food barrel to keep food fresh. We are grateful for the connections our community leaders have and they way they look to serve their community.
The food laying on the floor of a neighboring school. The barrels keep food fresh and tasting yummy!
Ways to help in June:
Medical Supplies- do you have extra band aids, gauze, tape laying around? We will take it off your hands. Or if you know of a nursing facility that might be willing to donate supplies that would otherwise be thrown away, please connect us!
School Supplies- We don’t want to bring it up but… it is almost BACK TO SCHOOL time. When you are picking up crayons or markers at a great deal, consider purchasing an extra pack or two to donate. They are able to use any general school supply. Crayola crayons are preferred as they do not melt in the hot Honduran climate.
How You Can Pray This Month:
Please pray for the construction team working on the new secured door/windows at the school. Pray safety over each child, their families and the teachers.
Please pray for Mikaela and Erik (Not for Sale Board members) as they prepare to visit Honduras in August. Pray that the supplies they bring will be useful and get to the exact place they are needed.
Freedom to Compassion
July 4th is a celebrated day in the United States that signifies freedom and independence. We are grateful for that freedom and those who sacrificed to secure and maintain that independence for us. Often when we consider the subject of freedom we think about what we are free from. We are free from oppression, free from restriction, free from violence. And yet the Bible asks us to consider another kind of freedom. A “free to” in addition to the “free from”. We have been given freedom to serve and care for one another. The Lord has given us resources and talents. We have this incredible opportunity to choose how we put these gifts to use. The Lord challenges us in this, will we use our freedom to serve ourselves or will we use it to serve others?
For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters, only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence, but through love serve one another. Galatians 5:13
What a responsibility we have. We are free to love our community and love one another. May all the celebrations of the month remind you to consider how the Lord has equipped you to use your freedom to show compassion and serve one another.
In Christ’s Love,
Lisa & The Not for Sale Team
